Contents: Eager for last year revenge, the Czech did not save any effort from the very begining of the game. Swedes accepted challenge, which lead to an intense fight on the ice. Attempts were multiple on both sides, players giving their best. Despite major goal shots from Czech Republic, Men in yellow were the only to score in second period: Weinhandl in double powerplay at the 24th minute, Tarnstrom in powerplay at the 49th. During third period, Cajanek offered the only goal for his team, in double powerplay. Then Jonsson killed the game by scoring a third goal 2 minutes before the bell. We can notice that game level was as high on both parts, and that Goalies mainly made the difference: experienced Gustavsson against 22 years old rookie Stepanek.
Contents: No mistake was made by the powerful Czech squad this time. Defeat against Canada (score: 1-5) is almost already forgotten. Cajanek scored 2 goals, one in the second period, the other 4 minutes before gameover, driven by Hemsky and Jagr. Elias had his goal too, assisted by Hemsky at the 40th minute. Team Belarus opposed a very fresh Stepanek in the cage, who numbered no less than 18 stops ! Qualifying round being finished for both teams, Belarusians know they will face Russia in Quarter Finals, a quite hardy task, whereas Czechs are still waiting to discover their opponent, who might either be Sweden, either U.S.A.
Contents: No gambler could have bet correctly on such a result... While Slovakia had been beaten 3-7 against Canada a few days before and Czech Republic conquered by the same opponent with a score of 1-5, one might have thought that this game be better balanced. Moreover, Slovakia even got a very honorable game issue after meeting Finland yesterday (score: 1-2). Thus, nothing nor nobody could have predicted that Czech players would make it so easily. There is a good chance that this event remains historically a source of Mockery/Revenge for neighbor countries.
Contents: What many Journalism professionals could have expected to represent a major fight proved to be a training session for Team Canada like any other already practised so far by this amazing Firewagon. Ales Hemsky modestly saved the honor assisted by his partner Jagr at the 58th minute, but actually, the result left a bitter taste for the Great Czech Team. One can explain this disappointing performance by the fact that they had played an exhausting game a day before against Finland. On her side, Canada remains undefeated.
Contents: Tonight game offered unexpected scenario. Czech Republic was leading 3 goals (Rolinek, Blatak, Kotalik) to 1 (Niko Kapanen) in the second period. Then Koistinen and Niko Kapanen made their team come back before the end of the period. Hagman set the difference by entering a goal at the 52th minute. This 100 mph game ranked Finland number 1 of its group, but the battle was hard and victory could have been awarded by the opponent too.
Contents: This game could have been stopped after 20 minutes. Indeed, Marek, Cajanek and Vasicek scored in the first period for the Czech Republic, providing their opponent from keeping any hope to recover. Despite one Viking goal by Jakobsen in the second period and another one by Zuccarello Aasen in the third, for each shot sent into the cage, the Czech scored their own (Blatak in the second period, Klepis in the third). However, Norway has achieved limiting the gap in front of an elite Team. Congratulations !
Contents: The Magic is alive ! Czech players have combined so well on the ice for their first game against a decent but desperate Danish Team. With Superstars Jaromir Jagr and Ales Hemsky, everyone could feel the great passion and involvement of this brilliant squad, who scored 4 goals out of 5 in powerplay (Hlinka, Marek, Cajanek, Hemsky & Jagr). Czech supporters were in Heaven and they know why !

Status : Medal Contender (IIHF World Ranking: 5)
Competition : Last year, Czech Team had been beaten by Russia during the preliminary round (score: 4-5) and eliminated by Sweden during the Quarter Finals (score: 2-3). Today, Ceska Republica will have to prove that they can still reach the podium by empowering their overall offensive system. Finland might be their first real challenge.
Pros : Great defense pack, solid synergy between players Cons : Lack of young blood talents
Features : Everyone still has in mind Nagano 1998 Olympic victory against Russia, as well as latest decade two marvelous czech super-stars: Dominik Hasek & Jaromir Jagr. The first one retired last year after winning NHL Stanley Cup, the second is already 37 years old and his presence at 2009 World Championship is considered as a great resource. Today new generation of Czech players have showed their mentors that they can successfully get trophies on their own, by keeping the legendary defensive shield of the team alive. Recent 2006 and 2005 medals vouch for their great value as a real dangerous team. The opponents are warned.
